Self-Assessment

How much are your symptoms affecting you?

The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) is a validated, internationally used questionnaire for rating the severity of menopausal symptoms (Heinemann et al., Health Qual Life Outcomes 2004). Rate each of the 11 symptoms below and see your score instantly.

Your answers are scored on this page and never leave your browser — nothing is sent, stored, or shared.

For each symptom, choose the option that best describes how it affects you at the moment. If a symptom doesn’t apply to you, choose “None”.

About this scale

How the MRS is scored

Each of the 11 symptoms is rated from 0 (none) to 4 (very severe), giving a total between 0 and 44. Alongside the total, the scale reports three subscales: somatic (items 1–3 and 11), psychological (items 4–7) and urogenital (items 8–10). Published reference values describe total scores in these bands:

0–4

None / minimal

5–8

Mild

9–16

Moderate

17+

Severe

The MRS was developed in the 1990s and has been validated and translated for international use. These bands describe symptom severity as reported in research populations — they are not diagnostic thresholds, and your own experience is what matters most in a consultation.
